Volunteering Program Information

Bushfire Recovery/Resilience

Habitat for Humanity Australia has committed to providing recovery services to people affected by the bushfires. Disaster Recovery Team have been on the ground since the smoke cleared restoring hope to communities affected. We are on the ground in New South Wales and South Australia helping salvage and rebuild, to assist homeowners.  For as long as it takes.

Our bushfire recovery program is usually located no further than 1.5 hours drive from the CBD.

The Bushfire Recovery program mobilises teams of volunteers to undertake:

  • Disaster Resilience
  • Repair and maintenance
  • Landscaping, gardening & clean-ups
  • Painting
  • Minor building projects

Please click here below for downloadable brochure.

Brush with Kindness

The Brush with Kindness program mobilises teams of school volunteers to conduct landscaping and minor repairs to the exterior of homes of people who may be disadvantaged, disabled or socially isolated. It is a ‘backyard blitz’ style activity where teams of 10-15 students can get out of the classroom and get their hands dirty! This is a great team-building and learning experience for school volunteer groups.

Our Brush with Kindness program is usually located no further than 90 minutes drive from the CBD.

What to Pack

Please find here a list of important items to remember:

  • What to pack

To reduce our footprint in the communities we work in, we ask all volunteers to bring their own refillable water bottle with them- sometimes even two is helpful on the site, so one can keep cool in the esky while you build.

Habitat requires long pants and enclosed shoes to be worn at all times on the build site- this is for your safety.

Tip: Go to a second hand store and buy clothes which you won’t mind if/ when they get ruined.

Cancellations

By us: From time to time we may have to postpone or cancel an activity for reasons beyond our control. If this occurs we will notify you in advance and offer an alternative activity.

By you: The fundraising contribution by each student needs to be completed 2 weeks prior to the activity.

Please note, if an activity is cancelled we are unable to refund any of the fundraising committed to us. We are, however, able to transfer this to a new activity at a later date.
