Local Village Information
What is Local Village?
A lack of decent and safe housing leaves people vulnerable to a range of issues, including increased health risks, reduced security and social isolation. In Australia, where Habitat for Humanity has been working for over 30 years, there is an urgent need to support disadvantaged people in our own community.
Through our Local Village volunteering program, you can help build better futures by engaging in activities that support vulnerable Aussie families affected by bushfires, preparing communities for future disasters, and assisting those who are disadvantaged, disabled, or socially isolated. Volunteers take part in a variety of tasks depending on the site and the immediate need of the families and communities that we serve.
Activities run from 9am - 3:30pm daily and can take place on one day or over a few days and can be tailored to suit your group's requirements. Locations are generally within 1.5 hours drive from Sydney or Brisbane CBDs.
Through shelter, we empower.
Why Involve Your School?
Whether you’re looking for a rewarding team building experience for your school or an exciting way for students to reach their Duke of Edinburgh award goals, our Local Village program is the perfect opportunity. Local Village is a chance for students to get out of the classroom and get their hands dirty in a truly impactful activity where they witness the value of helping those in need. Through their participation in these projects, students enrich their own learning, and the fundraising component allows further immersion in the cause and the engagement of the wider school community. The funds raised go far beyond supporting the activity and helps to ensure the continued operation of our Australian Home Build Program, which seeks to provide safe, decent and affordable housing to families in need.
